I’ve been the biggest fan of your work for years. You direct films that make really strong, clear choices...the moment, in Mommy, when the actor opens up the aspect ratio—wait, I don’t want to ruin it!

Okay, one song, one movie, one book, one person... I just wrote that down. I put it in my notes. That’s a great question. One song would be Rain by Kid Cudi. One movie would be Punch Drunk Love. One book… The Book of Disquiet. That's just what I'm reading now. And one person... I’ll keep that mysterious.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up. Now a major motion picture starring Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. Stephen Chbosky's new film Wonder, starring Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts is out now. Charlie is a freshman. And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix-tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But Charlie can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.'A coming of age tale in the tradition of The Catcher in the Rye and A Separate Peace... often inspirational and always beautifully written' USA Today

I was watching a movie ("Punch Drunk Love"), and then something happened, it clicked. I was inside of the world of an introvert, the way I only have been reading in the books like "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" or something like "Crime and Punishment".

Winners Take All

'Entertaining and gripping . . . For those at the helm, the philanthropic plutocrats and aspiring "change agents" who believe they are helping but are actually making things worse, it's time for a reckoning with their role in this spiraling dilemma' Joseph Stiglitz, New York Times Book Review'In Anand's thought-provoking book his fresh perspective on solving complex societal problems is admirable. I appreciate his commitment and dedication to spreading social justice' Bill GatesAn insider's trenchant investigation of how the global elite's efforts to "change the world" preserve the status quo and obscure their culpabilityFormer New York Times columnist Anand Giridharadas takes us into the inner sanctums of a new gilded age, where the rich and powerful fight for equality and justice any way they can - except ways that threaten the social order and their position atop it. We see how they rebrand themselves as saviours of the poor; how they lavishly reward "thought leaders" who redefine "change" in winner-friendly ways; and how they constantly seek to do more good, but never less harm. But why should our gravest problems be solved by the unelected upper crust instead of the public institutions it erodes by lobbying and dodging taxes? Rather than rely on scraps from the winners, Giridharadas argues that we must take on the gruelling democratic work of building more robust, egalitarian institutions. Trenchant and revelatory, Winners Take All is a call to action for elites and citizens alike.

It relates again to LaGuardia High, where I studied acting, - for my freshman scene there when I was 13 years old I was listening to the soundtrack of The Hurt Locker outside the stage before I went in there. So to me acting doesn't exist without some sort of soundtrack underneath, whether heard or internalized or whatever.

Cardi B is from Bronx, I'm pretty sure Mary J. Blige is from Bronx. My grandparents are from Bronx, I live in Bronx. The music is lit. That is what I was listening on the way here.
