Yah! I just saw a screening of Les Mis—oh my god—it is mind-blowing. It's so good that it's kind of stupid. It was the first musical that I ever saw when I was eight or nine, so I always had a connection to it. The movie holds up like you can't believe. It's amazing.

I didn’t want to watch the movie more than once because I didn’t want to fall into doing an impression, but the moment that really defined Fran for me was that one where he [C.C. Baxter, played by Jack Lemmon in the film] says, “The mirror . . . it’s broken,” and Fran says, “I know. I like it this way. Makes me look the way I feel.” That was the moment that stuck with me. I was like, Okay, that is where she’s functioning at any given time. It’s such a major element in life—of just getting through the day.

I recently watched Bringing Up Baby [1938] for the first time, and Cary Grant riffs in that film. So does Katharine Hepburn—she doesn’t stop for the entire movie.

I also hadn’t really seen any of Judd’s other movies at the time, besides The 40-Year-Old Virgin [2005], so I didn’t really know how Judd’s films worked, with people riffing and going off the cuff. That’s a newer form of comedy, isn’t it?

Probably the last movie I saw. [Laughs] I’m a huge crier. Moonrise Kingdom, the scene where they’re on the beach and they kiss for the first time. I love that little boy so much.

Haunted Honeymoon with Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner. It’s a spooky honeymoon movie. It’s very screwball comedy, and I think it would be really funny to do. Gilda is my favorite because she’s my mom’s favorite. I grew up watching her.

The Shawshank Redemption. My dad showed me that when I was 7 or 8. Thankfully, my parents weren’t too crazy about censorship. And I didn’t turn out to be a murderer or anything. My dad loved it. It’s funny how your parents rub off on you that way.

If we’re being honest, it was Spice World. I wanted platform shoes and crop tops and I wanted to dress like the Spice Girls. I got platform Skechers. I had bell-bottoms. A lot of peace signs. I cut bangs like Baby Spice because I had blond hair. I wanted to be Baby Spice.
