Framed in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older prisoner named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.

It’s a good script, it’s a good story; it’s a story about the human spirit and redemption… it’s beautiful.

Third, as Mississippian Morgan Freeman said in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,“Get busy livin’, or get busy dyin’.”

The only movie (except probably The Lion King and Titanix the year they opened) I have seen over 20 times. Gets me every time, and I love the cast.

Just the whole story of our man, Andy Dufresne, for everything he went through, you know, creating this friendship and place where it is 23 hours of lockdown. The ability to Manipulate, you know Warden, but also at the same time educate someone who was in there, who was not able mentally to educate himself. And, as you say, every time you have Morgan Freeman voice put there, it is already made good.

The Shawshank Redemption. My dad showed me that when I was 7 or 8. Thankfully, my parents weren’t too crazy about censorship. And I didn’t turn out to be a murderer or anything. My dad loved it. It’s funny how your parents rub off on you that way.

Simple storytelling at its best, character driven, beautiful and cinematic. The ending of that movie, if you’re not feeling good and your heart’s not twisted up and then melted back together then, I mean, I dunno, you don’t have a heartbeat. It’s one of the best feelings walking away from a piece of cinema.
