Anyway, I watched SEARCH 2, the original title is “missing” adapting the system invented by Timur Bekmambetov. Liked the 1st one and this one is as good as the 1st. The 1st one was about the father searches for his daughter but this time the mother searches for her daughter. Greatly thought script and the repetitive plot twist. This system can be adapted in various ways still. Highly recommended.

I watched "A Man Called Otto" on the plane on the way back. I cried throughout the film. It had been a long time since I had cried so much. The film reminded me of the importance of community and "kizuna" (bonds) with neighbors and local residents.

Watched the movie "Project Wolf Hunting". I was lucky that I hadn't seen the trailer or the promotional copy prior. I thought it was a "Con-Air" x "Die-Hard" movie, but then the whole thing shifted in a crazy direction in the middle!

Watched LIVING on the plane. A remake of Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, "To Live" IKIRU(1952). Directed by Oliver Hermanus, writted by Kazuo Ishiguro. For some reason maybe the low air pressure, I cried hard by watching this film.

Civilizations

An ambitious and highly entertaining novel of revisionist history from the author of the international bestseller HHhH, Laurent Binet’s Civilizations is nothing less than a strangely believable counterfactual history of the modern world, fizzing with ideas about colonization, empire building, and the eternal human quest for domination. It is an electrifying novel by one of Europe’s most exciting writers.C. 1000 CE: Erik the Red’s daughter heads south from Greenland1492: Columbus does not discover America1531: The Incas invade EuropeFreydis is the leader of a band of Viking warriors who get as far as Panama. Even after he is captured by the Taínos, his faith in his superiority and his mission is unshaken.Thirty-nine years after that, Atahualpa, the last Inca emperor, arrives in Europe. What does he find? The Spanish Inquisition, the Reformation, capitalism, the miracle of the printing press, endless warmongering between the ruling monarchies, and constant threat from the Turks. But most of all, downtrodden populations ready for revolution. Fortunately, he has a recent guidebook to acquiring power—Machiavelli’s The Prince. It turns out he is very good at it. The Fireman

Nobody knew where the virus came from.FOX News said it had been set loose by ISIS, using spores that had been invented by the Russians in the 1980s.MSNBC said sources indicated it might've been created by engineers at Halliburton and stolen by culty Christian types fixated on the Book of Revelation.CNN reported both sides. While every TV station debated the cause, the world burnt.Pregnant school nurse, HARPER GRAYSON, had seen lots of people burn on TV, but the first person she saw burn for real was in the playground behind the school. With the epic scope of THE PASSAGE and the emotional impact of THE ROAD, this is one woman's story of survival at the end of the world.

Annihilation

The Southern Reach Trilogy begins with this Nebula Award-winning novel that "reads as if Verne or Wellsian adventurers exploring a mysterious island had warped through into a Kafkaesque nightmare world" (Kim Stanley Robinson).Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; the second expedition ended in mass suicide; the third expedition in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another. The members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within weeks, all had died of cancer. In Annihilation, the first volume of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, we join the twelfth expedition. The group is made up of four women: an anthropologist; a surveyor; a psychologist, the de facto leader; and our narrator, a biologist. Their mission is to map the terrain, record all observations of their surroundings and of one another, and, above all, avoid being contaminated by Area X itself. They arrive expecting the unexpected, and Area X delivers—they discover a massive topographic anomaly and life forms that surpass understanding—but it's the surprises that came across the border with them and the secrets the expedition members are keeping from one another that change everything.
