Film audiences finally have the opportunity to see what our species really needs for optimal health and are introduced to a practical template based on these breakthrough scientific facts.

The movie is good, but I think it could have been better. It presents some really interesting information about the human diet and how it has changed over the years, but I think it could have delved more into the research and presented a stronger case for why we should all be following a perfect human diet. Still, it's an interesting watch and worth checking out if you're interested in learning more about optimal nutrition.

The Goddess Pose

When the woman who would become Indra Devi was born in Russia in 1899, yoga was virtually unknown outside of India. By the time of her death, in 2002, it was being practiced everywhere, from Brooklyn to Berlin to Ulaanbaatar. In The Goddess Pose, New York Times best-selling author Michelle Goldberg traces the life of the incredible woman who brought yoga to the West and in so doing paints a sweeping picture of the twentieth century.Born into the minor aristocracy (as Eugenia Peterson), Devi grew up in the midst of one of the most turbulent times in human history. Forced to flee the Russian Revolution as a teenager, she joined a famous Berlin cabaret troupe, dove into the vibrant prewar spiritualist movement, and, at a time when it was nearly unthinkable for a young European woman to travel alone, followed the charismatic Theosophical leader Jiddu Krishnamurti to India. Once on the subcontinent, she performed in Indian silent cinema and hobnobbed with the leaders of the independence movement. But her greatest coup was convincing a recalcitrant master yogi to train her in the secrets of his art. Devi would go on to share what she learned with people around the world, teaching in Shanghai during World War II, then in Hollywood, where her students included Gloria Swanson and Greta Garbo. She ran a yoga school in Mexico during the height of the counterculture, served as spiritual adviser to the colonel who tried to overthrow Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega, and, in her eighties, moved to Buenos Aires at the invitation of a besotted rock star. Everywhere she went, Indra Devi evangelized for yoga, ushering in a global craze that continues unabated. Written with vivid clarity, The Goddess Pose brings her remarkable story as an actress, yogi, and globetrotting adventuress to life.

The Omnivore's Dilemma

The New York Times bestseller that’s changing America’s diet is now perfect for younger readers“What’s for dinner?” seemed like a simple question—until journalist and supermarket detective Michael Pollan delved behind the scenes. From fast food and big organic to small farms and old-fashioned hunting and gathering, this young readers’ adaptation of Pollan’s famous food-chain exploration encourages kids to consider the personal and global health implications of their food choices. In a smart, compelling format with updated facts, plenty of photos, graphs, and visuals, as well as a new afterword and backmatter, The Omnivore’s Dilemma serves up a bold message to the generation that needs it most: It’s time to take charge of our national eating habits—and it starts with you.
Amirah Bryant
The Omnivore's Dilemma is an excellent book. It does an excellent job of explaining the pros and cons of different diets, and explores the arguments for and against each diet type in depth. The author also covers the ethical considerations involved in choosing what to eat, which is something that many people don't think about. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about food and nutrition.

Food Rules

For use in schools and libraries only. An enhanced edition of Food Rules --beautifully illustrated and packed with additional food wisdom Michael Pollan's Food Rules prompted a national discussion helping to change the way Americans approach eating. This new edition illustrated by celebrated artist Maira Kalman--and expanded with a new introduction and nineteen additional food rules--marks an advance in the national dialogue that Food Rules inspired. Many of the new rules, suggested by readers, underscore the central teachings of the original Food Rules, which are that eating doesn't have to be so complicated and that food is as much about pleasure and community as it is about nutrition and health. A beautiful book to cherish and share, Food Rules guides us with humor, joy, and common sense toward a happier, healthier relationship to food.
Amirah Bryant
Food Rules is a great book that provides simple, commonsense tips for eating healthy. It's a helpful guide for anyone who wants to make better food choices without having to worry about counting calories or tracking nutrients. Some of my favorite rules from the book include: "eat mostly plants," "avoid processed foods," and "take your time eating." These rules are easy to follow and can help you make healthier choices without overhauling your entire diet.
