But my all time favourite has to be Mario Kart. It’s brilliant. My daughter plays it now, and she’s better than me, annoyingly. For sheer fun, it’s just fantastic.

Road Blaster

I was never a racing game guy, because I always loved playing first-person shooters. But there was a game I really used to love in the student union at Bristol, called Road Blasters. It was very basic: a single track road, going along and picking up rocket boosters and stuff.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is an amusement park situated along the Fylde coast in Blackpool, Lancashire, North West England. The park was founded in 1896 and has been owned and operated by the Thompson family since its inception. It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the United Kingdom, and one of the top twenty most visited amusement parks in the world, with a peak estimate of 5.5 million visitors in 2007. In 2014 it was voted as the best theme park in the United Kingdom and the ninth-best park in Europe by the Travelers' Choice Awards. The park is host to many records, including the largest number of roller coasters of any park in the United Kingdom with ten, of which four are wooden: the Big Dipper, Blue Flyer, Grand National and Nickelodeon Streak. Many of the roller coasters in the park are record-breaking attractions. When it opened in 1994, the Big One was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. It was also the steepest, with an incline angle of 65° and one of the longest, measuring . Currently, the ride holds the record as the tallest roller coaster in the United Kingdom, standing at with a first drop of . The park was the first in Europe to introduce a fully inverting steel coaster, Revolution and is the last remaining park in the world to still operate a Steeplechase roller coaster. The Grand National is one of only three Möbius loop coasters in existence, where a singular track "loops" around itself, offering a facsimile out-and-back layout and creating a "racing" effect on two parallel tracks. Sir Hiram Maxims Captive Flying Machine is the oldest amusement park ride in Europe having opened in August 1904. At the cost of £15 million, Valhalla was one of the largest and most expensive indoor dark rides in the world. Designed by Sarner and manufactured by Intamin, Valhalla won "Best Water Ride" at the 2018 Golden Ticket awards, an accolade it has held over a consecutive number of years. The park also operates a Nickelodeon Land and the world's only Wallace & Gromit ride, the Thrill-O-Matic. In 2016 the park introduced Red Arrows Sky Force, a Gerstlauer Sky Fly thrill ride which is the first ride of its kind in the United Kingdom. The latest record is taken by Icon, a multi-launch coaster manufactured by Mack Rides in Germany. Icon is the first coaster in the UK to feature a double launch and is the largest-ever single investment at the park costing £16.25 million.

I was on tour years and years ago, and we were doing some shows in Blackpool. I walked down to the Pleasure Beach in the morning and it was raining, and I thought 'This is dreadful, so depressing.' And then suddenly the sun came out and the whole place made sense to me. We spent the entire morning there.

Where in the world have you felt happiest? Probably Skala on Kefalonia. My wife and I have been going there for nearly 15 years now, and it's somewhere we're very happy. We happened upon it on one of those pot-luck Thomas Cook trips when we were first together, and we haven't stopped going back. We've made some very dear friends there who take care of us.

Salcombe

Salcombe is a popular resort town in the South Hams district of Devon, south west England. The town is close to the mouth of the Kingsbridge Estuary, mostly built on the steep west side of the estuary. It lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The town's extensive waterfront and the naturally sheltered harbour formed by the estuary gave rise to its success as a boat and shipbuilding and sailing port and, in modern times, tourism especially in the form of pleasure sailing and yachting. The town is also home to a traditional shellfish fishing industry. The town is part of the electoral ward of Salcombe and Malborough, for which the 2011 census recorded a total population of 3,353. Kingsbridge Estuary (actually a ria or drowned valley) lies between Bolt Head and Sharpitor on the west and Portlemouth Down on the east, and runs inland for some . The estuary was designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest in February 1987 and is also a Local Nature Reserve.

We couldn't really afford overseas holidays, so we used to go down to Devon. I have really happy memories of Salcombe: there are all these country lanes, and I remember being in my parents' Opel Manta and this little white rabbit's tail bobbing up and down in the headlights in front. It was dark and it was late and I wasn't in bed, and I'd never seen a rabbit in the wild…

Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, formerly Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a full-size luxury SUV produced by Mercedes-Benz since 2006. It is a three-row, seven-passenger vehicle positioned above the GLE-Class, and is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz SUV line. The GLS shares the same unibody architecture with the GLE-Class. Most GLS-Class vehicles are assembled at the Mercedes plant in Alabama, except for a small number of early 2007 production vehicles which were manufactured in Germany. The first generation model (X164) was manufactured between 2006 and 2012 and was replaced in 2012 by the new generation GL-Class (X166). From 2016 with the release of the facelifted second generation model, the GL-Class was renamed to GLS-Class as per the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, SUVs use the base name "GL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy. The "G" is for geländewagen (German for off-road vehicle) and alludes the long-running G-Class. This is followed by the letter "L" that acts as a linkage with the letter "S", the SUV equivalent to the S-Class. __TOC__

He’s currently in a diesel Mercedes-Benz GL. “It’s an automatic. I’ve finally let go of my control freakiness and allowed myself to have an automatic. It’s easier. I used to prefer manuals and then I realised that was me just being a bit of a control freak. When you’re driving a manual on track, it’s fun to have that degree of control. I did have a Jag – an XK – until recently, but I realised I was driving the Merc more. Even though the Jag’s fun, I just wasn’t using it as much, so I let it go."
