The Killing Cousins

When Killing Cousins David Alan Gore and Fred Waterfield realized as teens that they shared the same sick, twisted sex fantasies of raping helpless, bound women who were completely at their mercy, Florida's quiet Vero Beach would be never be the same. Some of the least remorseful of all American serial killers, the deadly duo stalked their victims, often hitchhikes they believed would never be missed, using Gore's auxiliary deputy badge as a ruse to lure them into their vehicle. After that, they were most likely to be driven to their deaths. Their evil, sadistic story from the annals of Florida history is one that will chill even longtime fans of true crime murder, especially after reading excerpts from the letters Gore wrote from prison, in which he shared deplorable secrets that made him one of the most demented sex criminals of all time. Gore once told a psychologist that "the devil made me do it," but those who came in contact with Gore - including the law enforcement officials that ultimately put him on Death Row - believed he was the devil due to his depraved levels of cruelty. Among the psychopaths and sociopaths that have walked the earth, Gore was one of the worst, although those who knew them say that it was Fred Waterfield, the more popular cousin who always played the good guy to Gore's bad, who was the true brains of the outfit. As it happens, he probably was, because Waterfield almost got away with murder.

John Christie

John Christie was a man with many secrets, and his flat at 10 Rillington Place in London would become known as one of the original houses of horror. Former soldier, Special Constable, and husband, John was to become regarded as one of the worst British Serial killers to date, and one that left a lot more questions than answers following his execution. Nobody ever suspected that this quiet man would have a dark double life, with a penchant for prostitutes and sexual perversion. He took advantage of the post-war times, the desperate women without husbands and their need to be rid of unwanted pregnancies as a result of prostitution and lack of contraception. Christie claimed he could perform abortions, and this led some women right to his lair, where they would be gassed and raped while they died. The official number of deaths associated with this London serial killer was eight, but it is believed there were most likely many more. This true crime story is filled with unanswered questions and controversy, as Christie's actions led an innocent man to his death at the gallows. This would later bring about changes to the British legal system surrounding capital punishment, but for Timothy Evans it was far too late. This serial killer biography will intrigue you, disgust you and make you question how the police and legal system could get things so wrong. The fact that unlike many other historical serial killers Christie hid the bodies of his victims in his house and his backyard makes him one of the most disturbing perpetrators of true crime murder in history.

For its part, California is the most populous state in the U.S., so it would stand to reason that it would have more than its fair share of serial killers. But the state does seem to breed its own special blend of sociopaths. Far from the glitz and glamour of Los Angles or the scenic backdrops of the Bay Area, two men embarked on a vicious campaign in California's Central Valley that left at least twenty people dead. The two men--Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog--became collectively known by law enforcement as the "Speed Freak Killers" because the duo were almost always under the influence of the drug crystal methamphetamine when they committed several strings of murders during the 1980s and '90s. Herzog and Shermantine were known to be avid outdoorsmen who hunted and fished for various game, but when the two men were high on meth, they focused their attention on hunting the ultimate game--humans. Open the pages of the following book and learn the complete story of the Speed Freak Killers, Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog. You will learn about the early lives of the two men and how they evolved from local toughs into one of the most efficiently dangerous serial killer pairs in American history. Murder in Wisconsin

While Wisconsin is now perhaps best known for its die-hard love of both the Green Bay Packers and its cheese, deep beneath the surface of Wisconsin history simmers a cesspool of nightmares that began before the term serial killer had been coined. The horror started when Ed Gein tried desperately to bring back his dead mother by first exhuming bodies, then by killing in order to harvest female body parts that he himself would wear. His story sparked a nation's macabre fascination with American serial killers, though its bizarre tale of grave robbing and decorating with the dead meant that when other true crime stories surfaced from the state, no one was terribly surprised. Ed Gein was among the first to undergo criminal profiling - was he transgender, a woman trapped in a man's body, or did he really just miss his mother? - but he would not be the last. Wisconsin's infamous list of true crime serial killers includes the lonely Jeffrey Dahmer, who attempted science experiments in hopes of creating a sex slave to call his own, sex criminal David Spanbauer, who preferred raping little girls when he got the chance, and Walter Ellis, who preyed on prostitutes because he thought he would be able to get away with it. Turns out, he could, for more than a decade. Wisconsin is full of secrets, and very bad men. This biography of four prolific serial killers steps into the heart of the state's madness, and is likely to make their nightmares yours, at least for a spine-tingling night or two, especially when you realize that what happens in the movies is sometimes horrifyingly real.

Patrick Kearney

Patrick Wayne Kearney had a grudge. The American serial killer had been small and scrawny as a kid, and his classmates bullied him mercilessly. As a result, Kearney took his rage out on young men who either made the mistake of hitching a ride with him or catching his eye at a gay bar or bathhouse. In the process, he became one of the most prolific serial killers in California history. This serial killer biography goes behind the scenes, exploring the background that led to Kearney's horrific acts as well as the swath of death that the man who would become known as the Trash Bag Killer would carve across California. In the world of true crime murder, Kearney was a monster who preyed upon unsuspected boys and young men, and after they were dead, he used their bodies for sexual satisfaction before dismembering them and bagging them neatly up in industrial-size garbage bags. With the innocent looks of an accountant, Kearney seemed like a normal guy, if you didn't hear the gunshots - or happen to look out your window while the serial killer was taking out the trash. In the 1970s, this serial killer had California on edge. Today, Kearney's true crime story will have you on the edge of your seat, wondering how one man could so easily conjure up the devil and bring him so dreadfully to life.

The Briley Brothers

Richmond, Virginia: On the morning of October 19, 1979, parolee James Briley stood before a judge and vowed to quit the criminal life. That same day, James met with brothers Linwood, Anthony, and 16-year-old neighbor Duncan Meekins. What they planned-and carried out-would make them American serial-killer legends, and reveal to police investigators a 7-month rampage of rape, robbery, and murder exceeding in brutality already documented cases of psychopaths, sociopaths, and sex criminals. As reported in this book, the Briley gang were responsible for the killing of 11 people (among these, a 5-year-old boy and his pregnant mother), but possibly as many as 20. Unlike most criminals, however, the Briley gang's break-ins and robberies were purely incidental-mere excuses for rape and vicious thrill-kills. When authorities (aided by plea-bargaining Duncan Meekins) discovered the whole truth, even their tough skins crawled. Nothing in Virginian history approached the depravities, many of which were committed within miles of the Briley home, where single father James Sr. padlocked himself into his bedroom every night. But this true crime story did not end with the arrests and murder convictions of the Briley gang. Linwood, younger brother James, and 6 other Mecklenburg death-row inmates, hatched an incredible plan of trickery and manipulation-and escaped from the "state-of-the-art" facility on May 31, 1984. The biggest death-row break-out in American history.

The Waco Siege

During fifty one days in early 1993 one of the most tragic events in American crime history unfolded on the plains outside Waco, Texas. An obscure and heavily armed religious sect called the Branch Davidians was barricaded inside their commune and outside were hundreds of law enforcement angry because the former had killed four ATF agents in a botched raid. Open the pages of this book and go on an engaging and captivating ride to examine one of the most important true crime stories in recent decades. You will follow the meteoric rise of the Branch Davidians' charismatic leader, David Koresh, as he went from an awkward kid in remedial classes to one of the most infamous cult leaders in world history. But the story of the Waco Siege begins long before the events of 1993. David Koresh and the Branch Davidians carried on a long tradition in American and Texas history of religious dissent, but in 1993 that dissent turned tragically violent. You will find that beyond the standard media portrayals of the Waco Siege was an event comprised of complex human characters on both sides of the firing line and that perhaps the most tragic aspect of the event was that the extreme bloodshed could have been avoided. The pages of this book will make you angry, sad, and bewildered; but no matter the emotions evoke, you will be truly moved by the events of the Waco Siege.

Jeffrey Dahmer

Few serial killers in history have garnered as much attention as Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. Although Dahmer killed seventeen young men and boys, it was not so much the number of people he killed that makes him stand out among famous serial killers, but more so the acts of depravity that he committed on the corpses of his victims. In this true crime story you will read how Dahmer transitioned from a loner to serial killer, committing numerous unnatural acts along the way such as necrophilia and cannibalism. Following in the macabre tradition of another infamous Wisconsin serial killer--Ed Gein--Jeffrey Dahmer terrorized Milwaukee for most of the 1980s until he was finally captured in 1991. Perhaps one of the most frightening aspects of Jeffrey Dahmer's serial killer career was how easy he was able to lure his victims into his trap. Dahmer possessed above average intellect, was conventionally good looking, and usually had a calm demeanor that could disarm even the most paranoid of people. Because of these traits, Dahmer was able to evade justice numerous times, which allowed him to keep killing. Truly, Dahmer was able to fool his family, the police, his neighbors, and even the judicial system into believing that he was not a threat; but during the entire time his kill count increased and the body parts of his victims began to pile up around his apartment. Open the pages of this book to read a story that is among the most disturbing of all true crime serial killers. You will follow the course of Dahmer's life from an alcoholic outcast in high school to a vicious predator who stalked the streets of Milwaukee. Finally, you will read about Dahmer's trial, his jail house murder, and the impact that his many crimes had on Milwaukee.
