Do you have an album you would choose if you did a single record by the Velvet Underground for a set? SHANNON: The crazy part of me would say White Light/White Heat. That would be insane.

When “The One I Love” came out, that really stopped me in my tracks. That was such a powerful song.

The album that really brought them to my attention was Document.

To be fair, I’m a huge fan of all their records, and they’re all very distinct and their own entities to themselves. I wouldn’t say I prefer Murmur to their other ones — it was more a matter of the fact that it was the 40th anniversary of Murmur.

The first gig I went to Bob Dylan “I was living in Kentucky and went to the State Fair with my family and we were enjoying the silly rides, eating crappy food and whatever… Then my mum said, ‘Hey, there’s a concert tonight and it’s only five bucks. We should go and see it because the guy who’s playing is pretty amazing.’ That guy was Bob Dylan.”

The album that changed my life Talking Heads – ‘Naked’ “When I was 13 or so, I stumbled onto the Talking Heads who were my favourite band during my teenage years. ‘Naked’ is one of their best. David Byrne’s orchestration and arrangement is really breathtaking.”

I love Medeski Martin and Wood a lot—but I also love the old stuff a lot.

My favorite is Thelonious Monk.
