'I lost my heart in…' 'Tuscany, for sure. I made Stealing Beauty there when I was 18 - I actually had my birthday on set - and I fell in love with every single thing about it.'

One year my stepfather, Todd Rundgren, took us all to Kauai in Hawaii. I'd never gone anywhere warm for Christmas before. It was such a different experience; there was no Santa and no Christmas tree, so when we woke up in the morning he'd put all our presents under a palm tree outside. Todd now has a house out on Kauai and I've gone back many times, but I remember that first trip so vividly.

The first holiday I took with David [Gardner, her partner] was to a tiny island called North Haven in Maine, which is so magical, but it's an eight-hour drive, and then a ferry ride.

Most exotic place work took you to: "Angel Falls in Venezuela. I shot a Bongo jeans commercial there when I was 16. The commercial, in retrospect, was hilarious, but filming it was an amazing adventure.

Your all-time favorite vacation: "A friend and I went to Kenya for two weeks. We stayed at a beautiful property, Hippo Point, on Lake Naivasha, and there was wildlife everywhere—flamingos in the lake, giraffes and zebras in the fields, chatty monkeys outside our bedroom windows.

What is your favourite city? 'That's so hard, but maybe New Orleans. My godmother lives there and has a lovely house in the French Quarter. I first went to stay with her when I was 16, and it was so decadent and kind of wacky. I fell in love with all the people I met, who seemed so eccentric; a mix of Southern and European rolled into one.'

A place that most lived up to the hype? 'Copenhagen. Helena Christensen has been one of my best friends since I was a teenager. She'd always shown me pictures of Denmark and I loved all the Danish things she had. When I went for the first time, I was blown away.'

Where have you just come back from? 'Australia. I was in Melbourne for a couple of weeks filming the new season of The Leftovers and I loved it; it's beautiful, a very sweet city.

She is crazy about Yorkshire pudding. She cooks it personally for her friends serving it with roast, steamed vegetables and potatoes.
