-Hi Dave, what was it like working with Killing Joke in 2003, and is Jaz Coleman really as crazy as people and the media make him out to be? BTW great drumming on the album. -That was an incredible experience, they have always been one of my favorite bands of all time Jaz isn't crazy... he's just 1000 times smarter than anyone else.

Do you remember the song that changed your life? “Frankenstein,” by the Edgar Winter Group. That was the first record we had in our house. My mom and sister and I went to the Peoples drugstore, saw the record and bought it. It had “Frankenstein” on it! That’s when I decided that I wanted to rock.

His favourite Paul McCartney track is ‘Blackbird’. “You can’t even answer this question, it’s just not fair, but I’m going to say ‘Blackbird’. It’s such a beautiful piece of music…To me it’s just musical bliss.”

He wanted to play drums for Led Zeppelin as a kid. “I’d had this crazy dream since I was a kid that I would play drums for Led Zeppelin, I really thought I could do it. I know every song back to front, inside out.”

He’s confused by The Prodigy’s ‘Smack My Bitch Up’. “The song presents a weird ethical dilemma…I love the band so much I can’t believe they’d mean it in anything but an ironic way.”

In 2000, Dave told NME Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘I Ain’t The One’ makes him feel homesick. “That was the one song I kept rewinding to when I’d have to go to the grocery store.”

The drummer once cleared the room at a Olympia house party by playing Primus’ Frizzle Fry album on the stereo. “I put on the Primus tape and suddenly I’m the epitome of uncool,” he recalled to this writer.

Asked to pinpoint one album that inspired him to begin playing drums, Grohl selected Rush’s classic 2112 set, an album he was introduced to at age nine by his cousin Trip, while on a family visit to Chicago. Grohl took the record back home to Virginia with him and fell in love with Neil Peart’s “innovative” drumming. “It was really the first time I ever heard a drummer in the forefront of the band,” he recalled. In a nice life-turning-full-circle moment, in 2013 Grohl and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins inducted the Canadian rock legends into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and also performed a section of 2112 with the band.
