I also really enjoyed “Kate Remembered,” the bio of Katharine Hepburn. I love the perfect arc of biographies. It represents an order I’ve never known.

Of All the Gin Joints

What are the best books you’ve read about Hollywood? “Of All the Gin Joints: Stumbling Through Hollywood History,” by Mark Bailey, is a book that I was sent an advance reading copy of and that will be released this summer. It is great Hollywood folklore in an essay format, which I am partial to, and also made me feel like I was born in the wrong era and that I do in fact have a healthy relationship with alcohol.

One Thousand White Women

“One Thousand White Women.” “Anna Karenina” is a good jumping-off point into adult reading. I find Russian writers to be very charismatic storytellers; and that is where their charisma ends.

The Fountainhead

And what are your favorite books of all time? “The Fountainhead.” “Mawson’s Will.” My brother-in-law gave me that book 15 years ago, and I was so moved by it I was scared to read anything else. Human will can be stronger than any elements, and where there is fortitude, there is great achievement.

Circe

My favorite book of the summer. I don’t read enough fiction, so when I do, I love to be whisked to a whole other world that pushes my imagination into full gear. One of the most beautiful books I’ve read.

The Fatal Shore

I just traveled to Australia and was interested in reading about the true history of convicts and the colonization of Australia. Truly fascinating. A big book well worth the historical knowledge you will attain.

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone

This book reminded me a lot of my own book and is a great reminder how lost all of us feel, a lot of the time. Therapy can be a game changer and that’s happening because so many people are looking more deeply at themselves.
