I love the "The World According to Garp" by Irving, but this book of his is my favourite.

It really takes you back in time and I wish they would make it into a movie because I think it could be a great one.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay
Chabon is a great writer and I've read a number of his book, all of which I recommend.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
One of my time favourites. I love the main charater of this book.

I read this novel in college when I was trying to figure out what to do with my life.
