There is a great line in Lawrence of Arabia. Anthony Quinn. "The Turks pay me a golden treasure, yet I am poor because I am a river to my people." I just love that line. So I'm getting a T-shirt made: I AM A RIVER TO MY PEOPLE.

I had Lawrence of Arabia on a loop in my room throughout filming," he says. "Jesus, I watched it so many times." Obsessive repetition is an integral part of his working method.

All the performances are fantastic, from Sir Alec Guinness to Omar Sharif and on. Again, this feels like a perfect piece of cinema to me.

He continued: "I always tell people that a really great movie is a movie that puts you in the mood for the movie while you watch. If you watch Lawrence Of Arabia, To Kill A Mockingbird or if you watchOn The Waterfront, the movie really, really just puts a spell on you.

I remember the boys—our writers and showrunners—telling me that Daenerys’s arc is that of Lawrence of Arabia. I watched “Lawrence of Arabia,” and I was, like, “Great, cool. He’s brilliant. He survived, and it’s wonderful.” But then you remember how that movie ended, with Lawrence’s disintegration. I didn’t quite put those two things together.
