At the height of the Vietnam war, Captain Benjamin Willard is sent on a dangerous mission that, officially, "does not exist, nor will it ever exist." His goal is to locate - and eliminate - a mysterious Green Beret Colonel named Walter Kurtz, who has been leading his personal army on illegal guerrilla missions into enemy territory.

This Francis Ford Coppola masterpiece is from a period when directors like Brian DePalma, John Milius, Paul Schrader, Scorsese and others had great freedom–freedom that they then lost.

To me, he is someone I grew up watching and was inspired by in Apocalypse Now and Easy Rider.

He [Bradley's father] and I would talk about it all the time, we had this great idea (we thought it was a great idea) to do 'a night of Vietnam.' It started out we're gonna open it up with 'Apocalypse Now', and then ease right into 'the Deer Hunter', and then finish it up with 'Hearts of Darkness.'

In November 1991, Shakur released his debut solo album, 2Pacalypse Now. Though the album did not generate any hit singles, 2Pacalypse Now has been acclaimed by many critics and fans for its underground feel, with many rappers such as Nas, Eminem, Game, and Talib Kweli having pointed to it as inspiration.[47] Although the album was originally released on Interscope Records, the rights to its distribution are now owned by Amaru Entertainment, the label owned by Shakur's mother. The album's name is a reference to the 1979 film Apocalypse Now.

When asked what he may be good at as a director, Affleck talks about allowing actors a freedom to relax and time to succeed, and about having the patience to edit performances meticulously, and about looking out for the kind of special moments he cherished when he watched movies ("...that great moment where Brando turns around and looks at Martin Sheen...this incredible moment in Glory where Denzel is getting whipped and looks up...") and building a movie around them.

That’s my plane movie. Like, I’ve got it stored on my phone, and if I absolutely just need to just be on a plane, I’ll just put on Apocalypse Now.

How about films that have inspired any part of your life? Ritchie: You have to ask me some films and I'll have to nod. Sergio Leone? Ritchie: Yes, Sergio Leone influenced. Apocalypse Now? Ritchie: Yes.

Going to the Ziegfeld here on 54th street, opening day of Apocalypse Now — big, big moment for me. I remember hearing the helicopters come from behind my head and…I didn’t even know what to think. It was like stereophonic sound where they put some speakers in the back of the theater, and it felt like the choppers were coming over me. From the very first moment, you weren't watching it. You were in it.

Waiting for the Sam Mendes film 1917, and it raised a question in my mind: what's the greatest war film of all time? Maybe a tie between PATHS OF GLORY and APOCALYPSE NOW?

My favorite movie (even though it's very hard to choose) is also Antoine Fuqua's favorite movie, APOCALYPSE NOW - where there is a true dark journey of a mythical hero, who journeys down the river into the dark recesses of his mind and into the belly of the beast. It's what so many masculine characters are based on, almost, in a way, what every story is based on.

To me, Rocky II was my personal favorite movie, but Apocalypse Now was the movie of the year as far as I was concerned. And I took the bus to Hollywood to see it at the Cinerama Dome, and got the program that they gave out, and I still have the Life magazine where they have [Marlon] Brando on the cover. I was into everything about Apocalypse Now.

I saw the unveiling of #apocolypsenow #finalcut last night at the @beacontheatre at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was astonishing to see that film again after so many years.

I’ll pick Apocalypse Now Redux. If you see that last release version up on a big screen, you crank up the music, that is a life-changing experience.

There’s room for one of the greatest war movies ever made, too, Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now.
