"For me, clothes are a gateway to characters. I watch Audrey Hepburn movies and I want to do my makeup like that," she said. "I watch 'Stand by Me' and I think, I want to look like a boy."

She and her fellow young co-stars were instructed to watch Goonies, Poltergeist and Stand By Me, '80s-era fare that mixes humor, horror, psychological drama and lessons about love, family and friendship to prepare for the tone of Stranger Things. And for Brown's Eleven specifically, she told IndieWire, "They told me that the performance that they wanted me to resemble was E.T., and sort of that relationship between E.T. and the kids."

long ass day and its only 7pm..about to finish watching "stand by me" & dust off these leftovers from last night..

Stand by Me was a movie that really made me realize what I wanted to do for a living.

Totally with you on The Dead Zone. The best film too. Except, except... Stand By Me and Shawshank.

I was in our version of the projects, the river ran through it — so it ran through all my aunties' houses, stuff like that. And we'd go down there and have little adventures, and sort of pretend like we were in the movie Stand By Me. A lot of my life was spent walking alongside the River Lea to go and get to somewhere else.
