12-year-old Regan MacNeil begins to adapt an explicit new personality as strange events befall the local area of Georgetown. Her mother becomes torn between science and superstition in a desperate bid to save her daughter, and ultimately turns to her last hope: Father Damien Karras, a troubled priest who is struggling with his own faith.

Here it is, plausible proof that David Fincher was raised as a Catholic.

I think the fact that it didn't totally disturb the hell out of me – like if I'd have watched The Exorcist or The Shining that young, it might have had a different effect but it had the sort of sci-fi edge that’s not too brutal. [This] opened the door for me to An American Werewolf in London and The Howling.

The Exorcist, because it frightened the s— out of me. I remember going to see it in London – I went with a friend – and I said, “Well, that wasn’t too bad after all, was it?” And we both said, “Well, I don’t want to go home quite yet.” So we went out for a meal. That is an incredible movie.

The Exorcist, because I love Linda Blair. [Laughs] She’s my ideal woman.

Another horror classic that is close to Grohl’s heart is the absolutely indispensable gem that is William Friedkin’s The Exorcist. Grohl recalled how he would go to one of the filming locations in Georgetown over the weekends with the punk-rockers to drink beer which is why he developed an intimate connection with Friedkin’s work.

If you could play one character from film history, who would it be? - Regan, a little girl from "The Exorcist."
