"This Is Spinal Tap" shines a light on the self-contained universe of a metal band struggling to get back on the charts, including everything from its complicated history of ups and downs, gold albums, name changes and undersold concert dates, along with the full host of requisite groupies, promoters, hangers-on and historians, sessions, release events and those special behind-the-scenes moments that keep it all real.

One of the things about This is Spinal Tap that amazed me was that when I first saw it was that I didn't even know those guys were American. I was shocked to discover they were doing accents.

The funniest film that ever will be made. It invented an entire genre. It’s impossible for me to quantify the impact this film had on my sense of humor. When I meet young people who have not seen this film, I am at first dismayed and then overjoyed for them, because I know they get to experience the thrill of the “this one goes to eleven” speech for the very first time. This film is a master class in deadpan comedy. —TL

Explaining "turn it up to 11" to someone who hasn't seen the movie, has no sense of humor, and seems unable to process idioms really reduces the fun down to a mere 10.

It's my favorite movie by far. And one of the great things about Spinal Tap is that, you see it and think it's over-the-top ridiculous.
