A young neurosurgeon inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. In the castle he finds a funny hunchback, a pretty lab assistant and the elderly housekeeper. Young Frankenstein believes that the work of his grandfather was delusional, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind.

Young Frankenstein: My favorite version of Shelley’s fantasy, Brooks on the top of his form, a combination of sinister silliness and great storytelling with the charismatic insanity of the glorious Gene Wilder at its heart, I fell in love with it and him at 16 and never fell out again.

I love comedy, too. Anything Mel Brooks did — The Producers, Young Frankenstein. I’ve got so many favorites. It’s eclectic; it’s not any one type of movie.

“Young Frankenstein” “If I could be buried with one film, it would be that one. I was always in love with Gene Wilder, and I couldn’t live without Madeline Kahn, who’s somewhat built into my DNA as the funniest woman who ever lived, and one of the kindest. That film has been with me since I was 16, and it’s just one of those essential things that I watch every year.”

Then watching comedies, I still learn from the greats like Richard Pryor, Bill Murray and Gene Wilder. Some of his performances that come to mind, like in Young Frankenstein, just blow me away comedically.

My all-time favourite films include George A Romero’s zombie classics, which have been a huge influence, and Young Frankenstein, which I first watched on 16mm film.
